Holiday Harmonies

Our December 10 “Holiday Harmonies” show was such a fun time — for us and for our audience! After a five-year hiatus, we so enjoyed performing at North Haven High School, along with the Silk Jazz Trio.

Too bad we have to wait a whole year to celebrate the holidays again!

Singing on a Sunday Morning

How would you choose to spend a Sunday morning?  Meet friends for coffee or go to a farmers’ market?  What if you could do both with a group of women who share your interests?
That’s exactly what Silk’n Sounds did on a beautiful Sunday morning at the Blue Back Square Farmer’s Market in West Hartford, CT.  We sang some of our favorite songs including Eric Clapton’s “Change the World”, Stevie Wonder’s “You are the Sunshine of My Life” and a doo-wop favorite “Rockin’ Robin”.
Shoppers really enjoyed hanging around for the music and we had time to pick up fresh CT-grown conventional and organic vegetables, gluten-free gourmet cookies, and enjoy coffee together at coffeeology street cafe.
If you’re looking for some “Sunshine” in your life and enjoy singing, come to one of our Tuesday night rehearsals and feel the glow from sharing your voice with women who love to sing.  You’ll find information on rehearsal location and schedule here.

Silk’n Sounds welcomes new members frequently. Four new singers joined since August! We have a “buddy system” that ensures newcomers feel welcome and engaged right from the very first time you attend a rehearsal.

We enjoyed singing for a wonderful audience on a very rainy afternoon on Sunday, 9/10/23 at the James Blackstone Memorial Library in Branford, CT. Nothing like singing to brighten a rainy day!

We hosted a Summer Sing on 8/8 in Hamden. It was fun to meet new people and learn some songs together, while practicing vocal skills to improve our sound. It was a lovely way to spend a summer evening.

We really enjoyed singing a few songs on August 2nd at Villano Park for Hamden’s National Night Out. It was such a beautiful evening and a fun event!

Enjoyed celebrating with Kia and husband Per for their 25th Anniversary as residents of the U.S. Such a lovely evening of music, food and fun!

Congratulations and welcome to some of our new members! We look forward to creating some amazing musical memories together!

We participated in our Harmony, Inc. Area 2 Contest in Westborough, MA on 4/22/23. We had a great time singing and being together! We achieved our highest score and came in 3rd overall!

We had a great time working with vocal coach Karen Rourke during our rehearsal on 3/7. We really appreciate her knowledge and experience in barbershop singing and we always learn new ways to improve our sound.

SNS was proud to be a part of the Adopt a Family campaign sponsored by New Reach, Inc. (https://www.newreach.org/) in New Haven. We were able to adopt three families for Christmas, as well make a monetary donation from the chorus. We look forward to continuing to help support women and families in the New Haven area.

Enjoyed singing at the Guilford Public Library on Sunday, December 11th. So fun to be together and spread some holiday cheer!

We enjoyed spreading some musical love at the First Congregational Church of Wallingford on November 11th. Such a great audience! Looking forward to performing at the Guilford Public Library on December 11th at 2:00pm.

Enjoyed performing for residents at Ashlar Village in Wallingford on August 17th, 2022. What a great way to spend an afternoon!

Read our story in the Winter 2022 issue of the North Haven Magazine.

We had so much fun singing holiday carols for the Winter Wonderland drive through fundraiser which benefited the charitable programs of the Italian American Youth Foundation. The event was held at The Landing in North Haven. We enjoyed singing for people who drove through and often stopped and opened their windows to hear us sing. Nothing like spreading holiday cheer after such a trying year for many people!

We had a wonderful time singing for a live audience at the First Congregational Church in Wallingford on October 22, 2021. Even with masks, we were able to share our music and spread some love.
Fall Festival 5 resize.jpg

We had so much fun at the Hamden Fall Festival on September, 18th! It was a beautiful day and we had the opportunity to meet some interesting festival goers, some great vendors and some potential singers. Can’t wait for our next event together, when we will be singing in Wallingford on 10/22/2021 at the First Congregational Church!

Silk’n Sounds had the opportunity to perform virtually in March 2021 for the development of an off-Broadway Audio Theater broadcast of “The Triangle Factory Fire Project” by Christopher Piehler and Scott Alan Evans.  Despite the challenges of COVID, our chorus has continued to sing together each week over the past year and into Spring 2021. Led by our dynamic director Kia, we adapted our learning styles, added several new songs to our repertoire and continued to expand our singing skills.

We adopted creative solutions to the barriers of singing together in person, and Kia brought her electric piano, microphone and a speaker to our outdoor rehearsals to facilitate participation by remote singers via Zoom.

We also welcomed four new members in 2020 — they couldn’t wait out the pandemic to sing!
