Our Director
Scott Colman has been a Barbershopper since 2004. His began when a friend,
a member of the Westchester Chordsmen, asked if he liked to sing. He was
invited to attend the annual barbershop show performed by the Chordsmen, a
chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. He joined the Chordsmen within a
few weeks and has been an active member ever since. He has progressed
"through the ranks" becoming assistant bass section leader, front row captain,
and assistant director. On the administrative side he has been a board Member-
At-Large, Music Vice-President, and is currently President of the Chordsmen.
Clearly, he is enthusiastically involved in this wonderful hobby and craft.
Scott has been a musician since the age of seven playing piano, violin, trumpet,
guitar and flute. His formal musical training includes being a music theory major
and singer in college with the intention of a career in music as a theory teacher.
He has performed with various professional groups, among them the Bridgeport
Connecticut Symphony. He then took a departure from professional music and
is now a practicing dentist in Scarsdale, New York.
A lover of the Barbershop style since childhood, music was never far away. And
when asked to attend the show in 2004, he rediscovered this love. After joining
the Westchester Chordsmen and becoming as active as he has, it seemed a
natural progression that he become a front line director. Silk 'n Sounds is his
first full time directorial position. We welcome him and anticipate great things for
all of us.
